PTC #2743 Restoration

It is shown placing a PCC truck from SEPTA car 2743 on the deck of the flatcar in 1996. This same flatcar would later be built into the aerial bucket car.

In 2000, the flatcar has become our aerial bucket car.

The standard gauge Cleveland truck is shown disassembled on the track. The wheelsets and track brakes from these trucks were combined with parts from SEPTA trucks to make the car operable on our standard gauge track.

In 2000, this truck is in use under our PCC #2743.

In April of 1998, we completed a major project to change the wheel spacing of Philadelphia "PCC" trolley #2743.

Because Philly uses broad-gauge track, with the rails farther apart than the standard-gauge we use, the car could not be run until this project was completed.

During the winter of 1997-8, the second truck was removed for rebuilding to standard gauge, and separated into its wheelsets and the truck frame.

Two motors for PCC 2743 just overhauled by our friends at Huntingdon Electric Motor Service have returned to the museum for future reinstallation and are unloaded using out trusty Bobcat loader. The trolley's other too motors will follow the first pair soon.

Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys founding members Bill Monaghan and Harry Donahue are shown presenting a check for $2500.00 to Joel Salomon, President of Rockhill Trolley Museum at the RTY Board meeting in January.

This grant from FPT will be matched by a grant from the 20th Century Rail Foundation, which will also match further grants from FPT to the amount of $10,000.

This check represents the first installment of the $10,000 which FPT has raised for this current project.

Body and prep work on 2743 will commence in May or June, will the goal or returning 2743 as close as possible to its late 1950's appearance in the familiar PTC green and cream.

We hope to have the project completed in time for the 2014 PCC Day at RTY.

FPT thanks all of those who have supported our events and efforts in raising the funding for the 2743 project.
